Halmahera Liveaboard Cruises Through Indonesia’s Remote Reefs

A Spice Island that diving rediscovered.

Halmahera is the largest island in the Maluku group, its four mountainous peninsulas enclosing straits, bays and offshore islands that stayed largely off the traveller's map for centuries. Long before diving brought attention here, Halmahera and its smaller neighbours Ternate and Tidore were the original source of cloves, drawing Portuguese, Spanish and Dutch traders into a centuries-long contest for control of the spice trade.

That history remains visible on land, but it is the water that has drawn renewed interest.
